Barcode Scanner

Barcode Scanner (or Barcode Reader) is an electronic device for reading printed barcodes. The barcode scanner uses a laser or camera to capture the barcode’s pattern, and then it translates that pattern into numbers or letters. This information is sent to a computer or a system to identify the product or item associated with the barcode.

Type of Barcode Scanner

  • Laser Scanners use a laser beam as the light source and typically employ either a reciprocating mirror or a rotating prism to scan the laser beam back and forth across the barcode.
  • Linear Image Scanners use a small video camera to capture an image of a barcode. The reader then uses sophisticated digital image processing techniques to decode the barcode.
  • Portable Data Collector are designed to be used on-site to scan barcodes and have the added advantage of being used offline. Mobile data collection allows information to be recorded digitally on the barcode data scanner at the point of origin, eliminating the need for data entry afterwards.
